What is thien hau pagoda?

Thien Hau Pagoda, also known as the Temple of the Lady Thien Hau, is a Chinese-style temple located in the Cholon (Chinatown) district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Lady Thien Hau, also known as Mazu, who is believed to be a protector of fishermen and sailors in Chinese culture.

The temple was built in the early 19th century by the Cantonese community in Ho Chi Minh City. It features colorful carvings, elaborate woodwork, and detailed ceramics that reflect traditional Chinese architecture. The temple is also adorned with incense coils, which are lit by visitors to release their prayers and wishes into the air.

Today, Thien Hau Pagoda is one of the most popular attractions in Ho Chi Minh City and is visited by both tourists and locals. It serves as a cultural and religious center for the Chinese community in the city, who gather here to celebrate important festivals such as the Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival. The temple is open daily from early morning until late afternoon and is free to enter.
